6 Easy Steps to Your Perfect Wedding Table Settings
Are you getting married soon and have NO idea what you would like your centerpieces to look like? Or perhaps you have an idea, but need someone to help make it happen?
Are you even considering going the DIY route to "save money"? Not many couples realize they'll be spending much of their free time DIYing their own wedding, setting everything up, and then having to tear everything down themselves at the end of the night. What a way to ruin the wedding mood. Nothing spells "fun" like loading a uhaul in formals!
So I've compiled six steps to a perfect Heart Wedding Decor tablescape and how we would help create them for your upcoming wedding or event.
Step 1: Choose your vibe/style and/or theme! Why is this the first step? Typically, your style or theme defines almost all of the rest of the wedding planning. To begin, create a mood board (there are many free resources for this on the 'net) or a Pinterest board (or both!). Just keep in mind that Pinterest can get overwhelming with the number of choices you will find when searching "Elegant barn wedding in northern Michigan", for example. Or if you're not sure exactly what look you want to create? Start asking some questions. Do you love travel? Do you love an old school look, such as 70s retro or mid-century modern? Or are you more art-deco, with black, white and metallic accents? If you aren't sure, reach out to a local rental/design company and talk through things. We offer this initial consultation service to all couples at no charge.
Step 2: Pull in those wedding colors (for example, burgundy or navy napkins) and an accent color (ivory tablecloth) and maybe a metallic (gold for the charger plate and candle holders). Search wedding color palettes on Pinterest and/or search by season. Here are some fun ideas I have created in the past: classic blue, peach and rose gold accents for a beach wedding. Unique and beautiful! Or deep red, black and gold accents (such as candelabras) for a moody Gothic wedding.
Keep in mind, not all colors "work" for every vibe, style or even season. For example, black, white and red aren't typically summer colors, and they tend to be more formal. Or if you like the whimsical vibe, which is super popular right now, you most likely won't see deep colors such as burgundy or dark purple. It tends to skew pastels and is perfect for a spring or summer wedding. If you've chosen a traditional feel, white and greenery will always look great.
Step 3: Choose your linen style(s) and color(s). Got farm tables instead of banquets and rounds? Choose a simple runner such as cotton gauze or chiffon. Note: never, under any circumstances, choose linens that don't reach the ground if using standard tables that some venues supply. No one wants (or needs) to see table legs and various purses and bags. Also, the look of ugly table legs just doesn't look great in photos.
Poly-cotton, our most popular style, is also typically the most cost effective. Think you just want to buy some linens online because they are cheaper? There is a reason for that. They are poorly sewn and you'll be lucky if the seams don't fall out when you wash them prior to use. And then what? Are you going to pack them all up and take them home? Home washing just doesn't do the job for most linens. Stains are hard to remove (especially if they mildew!) and the drying and pressing process takes forever! Save yourself the headache and rent them.
Step 4: Choose accent pieces to pull your theme together (lanterns, vases, table numbers, candle holders and even furniture). The most important thing to think of: guests spend the most time at the table. Why not WOW them with centerpieces and tablescapes? For example, for a garden party vibe, white vintage lanterns look amazing with floral and greenery spilling out and some votive candle holders tucked in. Guests love oohing and aahing over a gorgeous table.
Step 5: Have your local rental company do a "mock-up" with the items you are considering to ensure everything is how you LOVE it. Having a destination wedding? Zoom or Facebook Messenger it. This is another service that we provide our couples and even would-be couples.
Step 6: Place your order! (Booking earlier will ensure you'll get what you want, especially on the super-popular items).
Note: not sure about any of this other than maybe your colors? Ask your rental pro (just be sure they are also designers/planners.
